LAKE ARGYLE CRUISE

Western Australia
Western Australia

Day Trip from Kununurra – Lake Argyle is Western Australia’s biggest reservoir created by damming the valley in 1971 as the second stage of the Ord River Irrigation Project. It is located 70km south of Kununurra, and it is a must-visit place while you are in Kununurra.

When we visited Kununura some years ago, we took a boat tour to cruise on the Ord River, and we had a chance to spend a little time to see Lake Argyle as a part of the tour.

This time, we wanted spend more time at Lake Argyle, and decided to catch a cruise tour on the lake.

Lake Argyle was formed by damming a valley in a rugged mountain range, and what were once mountain peaks are now scattered in the lake as islands.

The sight of the orange islands floating on the calm, mirror-like surface of the lake is truly magical!

The cruise tour we took was a 3-hour lunch cruise. They anchored the boat on one of the islands in the lake and we enjoyed the barbecue lunch on the boat!

We also had time to swim in the lake, and we really had a good time.

There are a variety of tours available on Lake Argyle. The cruise we took is run by the Discovery Resorts (cabin type accommodation & caraban park) in Lake Argyle. After the cruise, you also have time to swim at their famous infinity pool overlooking Lake Argyle.

Award-winning Infinity Pool of Discovery Resort in Lake Argyle

To join this cruise from Kununurra, you can drive for yourself (scenic 50-minutes drive via Victoria Highway), or you can add coach transfers to the cruise.
