“GASTROPUB IN THE HEART OF FITZROY”
Marquis of Lorne is a Victoria Era pub in the side streets of Fitzroy dating back to 1873 and one assumes it was named after John Campbell, the 9th Duke of Argyll, who married Queen Victoria’s daughter Louise and was Governor General of Canada from 1873 until 1878.

Although renovated and tastefully decorated it has retained its old-world charm and in a popular gastro pub that does great pub food, featuring some classics and some not so well known. A classic entrée, rarely seen now days in a classic version of the old fish shop “potato cake”, a batter coated fried potato that is popular. Prices are sensible and affordable and the food is done well.

Service was friendly and matched the comfortable feel that this very good pub provided.
Casual outside tables are very popular too, and there is also a rooftop bar.

Like this pub, try some others operated by the same owners, such as the Healesville Hotel, the Morningstar in Williamstown, and The Royal Oak Hotel, also in Fitzroy.
